Card centering calculator
Drag the guides onto the card’s edges and its inner border, or type the border widths. See the left/right and top/bottom centering, and the best grade it allows at PSA, BGS and CGC.
Shoot the card straight on, flat, without the sleeve. Tap a guide, then use the arrow keys for small moves.
Best grade the centering allows (front)
How it works
For each axis, the calculator divides one border by the sum of both borders. A card with a 3.4 mm left border and a 2.8 mm right border is 54.8/45.2 left to right. The worse of the two axes decides the grade the centering allows.
The limits below are the centering standards each grading company publishes for the front and back of the card. They are approximate: graders measure by eye and by tool, so a card right on a limit can go either way.
- PSA tightened its front limits in January 2025: a PSA 10 now needs about 55/45 on the front, where the old standard allowed up to 60/40.
- BGS gives centering as one of four subgrades, so the overall grade also depends on corners, edges and surface.
- TAG publishes separate back limits for TCG cards, used here.
- CGC publishes centering numbers for sports and non-sport cards only; its scale gives none for TCG cards.

Questions
How is card centering measured?
Measure the border on each side: left against right, and top against bottom. Each pair becomes a ratio of 100, like 55/45. The side with the bigger share sets how off-center the card is.
Does the back of the card count?
Yes. Graders check both sides, but they allow more off-centering on the back. Switch to Back to compare a back photo against the back limits.
Is centering the only thing that sets the grade?
No. Corners, edges and surface count too. This calculator only tells you the best grade the centering alone allows, so a card can still grade lower.
